What to Look for When Hiring a REALTOR®

What to Look for When Hiring a REALTOR®

Deciding to work with a Real Estate Agent is a big first step in either buying or selling a home, but what characteristics should you look for when talking to someone? Just because someone holds a Real Estate Agent license doesn’t mean that they are the best fit for you. Let’s look at 4 characteristics of a great Real Estate Agent.

1. Finding Creative Solutions

Every day is different for Real Estate Agents, they are constantly having to think on their toes at any moment. Often there are deadlines to hit, answers to be found, and people skills to be had. You want someone who will look at a problem from all angles to find the best solution. If you’re interviewing a Real Estate Agent a good question to ask is “What was the last difficult problem in a transaction? How did you overcome it?” Their story will tell you a lot about what they’ll do for you if/when a problem arises.

2. Hustle

In a market as busy as the current one, you want a Real Estate Agent that makes it happen. In literal rain, shine, ice storm, time crunch a good Real Estate Agent will work to push through whatever blockades come up. Sometimes that looks like getting the right research or contact at a moments notice. A good Real Estate Agent will always keep your best interest at heart and work for you. A good question would be “What are some of the ways you show up for your client?”

3. Honest Feedback

When you’re having to make a big decision on a large purchase like a house you want to know everything. Chances are Real Estate AgentS have seen it all but if they aren’t willing to give you the feedback you need than they’re experience is not helpful. Find a Real Estate Agent that doesn’t sugar coat and gives advice even when it hurts. A good question to ask is “How do you relay information? What is your approach sharing bad news?”

4. Trust

This is the biggest factor of them all. Trust lays the foundation for the whole relationship and goes a long way through the deal. You will most likely hit some bumps along the way whether it’s competing offers or an overwhelming inspection report. When that time does hit you don’t want to second guess what your Real Estate Agent is saying. A lot of times the biggest indicator of trust is a referral, if they’ve worked with a family or friend. But it’s even in the little things that trust can be built when you first meet a new Real Estate Agent. It’s best to trust your gut and ask lots of questions when you’re looking for that right Real Estate Agent to work with.
